Shop for the outdoors, save the indoors

Utah Heritage Foundation is an organization dedicated to "preserving, protecting and promoting Utah’s historic built environment." They advocate for historic buildings—everything from sugar beet mills to Ogden High. One of their high-priority projects right now is the much-maligned public safety building downtown, (corner of 200 South and 300 East), which the foundation argues is a classic example of the International Style that deserves to be placed on the National Historic Register.

I love an organization that's dedicated to history, and not just to stuff that's more than 100 years old. So I am pleased to find that I can shop at REI.com and donate seven percent of the proceeds to Utah Heritage Foundation. It's easy—just click this link, or go to utahheritagefoundation.com and click the REI icon there.

I think of it as a way to enjoy the great outdoors and help preserve the state's great indoors.

About This Blog

Welcome to the Hive! Magazine staffers are generally inquisitive, talkative folk, and that's definitely true here at Salt Lake. Luckily for us, a lot of interesting, random or just plain curious stuff crosses our desks every day, and gives us plenty to gab about.

Here's a place for us to share the stuff that strikes us as funny, or just plain strikes us. We hope you'll join the conversation.
