Utes' Tweet Successes

Utes' Tweet Successes

Apparently tweeting isn’t just for celebrities and narcissistic college students. University of Utah Coaches Kyle Whittingham and Jim Boylen have joined the ranks. Both plan to update fans on the statuses of their teams via Twitter.

When I saw the Salt Lake Tribune added to what seems like endless reporting on the messaging trend, I thought, “Oh no! It’s spreading!” But perhaps this is a step in the right direction. Instead of the laymen commenting on their lunches, showers, and other too-personal occurrences, tweeting will serve a narrower purpose. Reporting the news. In this case, news on the Utes.

As of now, Ute football recruitment is going well and the team will be taking their game up a notch come fall. Boylen will be concentrating on a high school basketball elite camp. Both have a growing number of followers, Whittingham with 755 and Boylen with 387.

And it seems as though Whittingham inspired Boylen to tweet. On May 19th in two consecutive tweets, Whittingham writes:

“What's the chances of getting Coach Boylen on Twitter?”

Then,

“Haha! Ask and you shall receive!! Jimmyball is on Twitter!”

Boylen can take a few tips from Whittingham, whose tweets are shorter and punchier, but as long as they don’t mention what they buy at the grocery store or complain about their neighbors, their tweets are okay by me.

To follow Whittingham and Boylen, visit Twitter.

About This Blog

Welcome to the Hive! Magazine staffers are generally inquisitive, talkative folk, and that's definitely true here at Salt Lake. Luckily for us, a lot of interesting, random or just plain curious stuff crosses our desks every day, and gives us plenty to gab about.

Here's a place for us to share the stuff that strikes us as funny, or just plain strikes us. We hope you'll join the conversation.
