A Trippy Tuesday

A Trippy Tuesday

I would never suggest anyone should break the law, but I will say that Tuesday night in Salt Lake City looks like it was designed for practitioners of the psychedelic arts.

Consider the lineup: a Pink Floyd tribute band at Kingsbury Hall, a Tony-winning Sesame Street-inspired batch of street-wise puppets at Capitol Theatre, and a French bossa nova crew that makes its bones doing covers of punk and new wave tunes like Depeche Mode's "Master and Servant" and Violent Femmes' "Blister in the Sun."

Whoa, man.

Nouvelle Vague is the French band in question (pictured), and they are headlining a show at The Urban Lounge Tuesday.

Here's a little bit of Nouvelle Vague doing Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart:"

Tickets are $15 at 24Tix.com, and they'll probably have some at the door, at least early. Doors at 9. Couldn't find any info on any opening acts.

Up the hill at Kingsbury Hall at the U, the Pink Floyd Experience is doing its "full sensory recreation of a legendary Pink Floyd concert," meaning all you folks who grew up with the headphones cranked to Dark Side of the Moon or The Wall can live that experience once again. And probably forever, considering how popular these Floyd tributes have proven to be for a slew of music re-creationists. The show's at 7:30, tickets are roughly $25 to $40.

And the thing I'm most excited about Tuesday? The arrival of the hit Broadway show Avenue Q, a musical-comedy reputed to be a sort of skewed Sesame Street type thing, complete with the interaction of New York City-dwelling puppets and humans. Been looking forward to this one for a while, and you can check back Wednesday morning for a review of the show. Avenue Q runs Tuesday through Sunday at the Capitol Theatre. Get your tickets via ArtTix outlets.
