Thursday night and weekend highlights

02/04/10 - 08:37 AM
Thursday night and weekend highlights

A few options for you this eve:

- Up at The King's English Thursday, U of U writing prof Maximilian Werner is reading from his new book Black River Dreams, which the King's English Web site calls "a collection of literary fly fishing essays that celebrates the fly fishing life, the intersection between past and present, spirit and body, water and land, ghosts and dreams." The tome won the Utah Arts Council's 2008 Original Writing Award in the Nonfiction Book category.  It's free and starts at 7 p.m.

- Kingsbury Hall features the flying feats, and feets, of the Peking Acrobats. I've seen this group before, and it truly is amazing what human beings can do. They perform Thursday and Friday—both shows start at 7:30 p.m.

- Avenue Q continues its run at Capitol Theatre through Sunday; check out my review here, and then go buy some tickets at ArtTix! It's worthy.

- Thursday night marks the first of a three-night run for Big Bad Voodoo Daddy with the Utah Symphony at Abravanel Hall.

- Alterna-hip-hopper Lyrics Born performs Thursday in Park City at the Star Bar, and Friday in Salt Lake City at The State Room.

- Country crooner Chris Cagle performs Thursday night at The Westerner in West Valley City.

- Another interesting rapper, P.O.S., performs Saturday at Kilby Court, and Sunday at Urban Lounge.

About This Blog

Arts & Entertainment editor Dan Nailen spends many a late night on the town so that you don’t have to, but he will do his best to cajole you to join him for a meal, a martini or a Pabst Blue Ribbon. Whether he’s hitting a dive bar to hear a hot new band or playing with the pretty people at events far too classy to admit him if he didn’t work for Salt Lake magazine, you’ll read about it here.

Check in regularly for tips on worthwhile nocturnal activities, concert reviews and one-of-a-kind commentary from our resident pop culture-obsessed music geek and social gadfly.
