Working for the Weekend

Hola gang. I'm heading out of town on a northbound jaunt to Montana in a few hours, so I'm packing in a weekend's worth o' tips for ya. Aren't you lucky!
A couple of shows run through the weekend, and you should definitely consider them as part of your plans. One is the mesmerizing Ballet West production of The Tempest. I totally dug it, and I'm a complete ballet novice. You can read my impressions here. Another option with multiple dates and times for your consideration is Six Years, the new drama playing at the Salt Lake Acting Company.
TONIGHT
There are a few music options for you this evening. If you love overwrought, prog-rock versions of Christmas tunes (and hey, who doesn't, right?), the Trans-Siberian Orchestra will do their bombastic best to scratch that itch for ya tonight at West Valley City's E Center.
Tonight at Kingsbury Hall, it's the Kronos Quartet doing a piece called "Sun Rings," and out at The Saltair, it's the metallic fury of Powerglove, Turisas and Dragonforce. Check out the looks of these London headbangers:
FRIDAY
Friday night, hit Burt's Tiki Lounge for a show featuring instrumental dance-rockers El Ten Eleven, along with Furs, Oh! Wild Birds and La Farsa. Also Friday, head to the Urban Lounge to catch Future of the Ghost, Samba Gringa and Palace of Buddies.
The best show Friday, though, goes down at Kilby Court, with a worthy double-bill that includes the twangy touches of Bishop Allen along with Aussie duo An Horse, a band that delivers a sparse-but-enticing brand of indie-rock.
SATURDAY
On Saturday, head to the Urban Lounge to hear the astounding pipes of My Brightest Diamond lead singer Shara Worden, whose musical imagination is something to behold. It's no surprise that the band's mix of rock guitar, strings and intricate songcraft led to tours opening for the like-minded Decemberists and Sufjan Stevens.
Saturday at Studio 600, it's a show featuring Earl Greyhound and Portugal. The Man, a rock act from lil' Sarah Palin's hometown of Wasilla, Alaska; the band sent out a press release during the campaign indicating their non-support of their hometown's former mayor.
And Saturday at West Valley City's E Center, it's the inexplicable return of the New Kids on the Block, doing the reunion thing with a couple of hot up-and-comers opening up: Natasha Bedingfield and Lady GaGa. If any of you go check this out, please let me know how it sells. I'm intrigued by the idea of a bunch of 30-something moms taking their kids to see five 40-ish dudes dance and sing.
Saturday, jazz cat Rick DellaRatta, one-time emcee for Dizzy Gillespie, will perform a Jazz for Peace benefit concert to raise money for Domes for the World, a Salt Lake-based group the provides affordable housing in impoverished areas. The show will be at 6 p.m. Saturday at The Tavernacle, 201 E. Broadway.
Saturday and Sunday, it's the Jewish Arts Festival at the Jewish Community Center, and Saturday night at the Sugarhouse Barnes & Noble, Art Access is hosting a teen literary salon, and a portion of the store's sales all day long will go to benefit Art Access programming.
SUNDAY
Jam-banders Donna the Buffalo headline at Bar Deluxe as part of their tour celebrating 20 years of roots-rock mayhem.
