Coffee, tea or chocolate?

Coffee, tea or chocolate?

I had in mind a pot of tea and a scone when I headed out to Bevalo, a fresh downtown coffeeshop on this English-ish day. But I got distracted by something on the menu called a "chocolate martini." Shaken, not stirred. And no kick, of course. Just espresso, dark chocolate and cream, shaken over ice and strained into a glass.

I'm not completely crazy. I asked that my martini be made with milk instead of cream. I only know of one person who drank cream when he was thirsty and that is Chef Paul Prudhomme. IJS.

THis is a real grown-up treat—complexly bitter and and energizing in a gentler way than coffee but a sexier way than tea. The only thing that could have made it better was a hot day. Fortunately, my companion shared his his hot pot with me.
