Chow on wheels

Chow on wheels

Don't even think roach coach.

Gourmet food on wheels is culinary America's latest trend and it's so obvious we're all envious we didn't think of it first. It's big in New York, where a La Cirque-trained pastry sous chef drives the Dessert Truck. The Green Truck in Los Angeles, runs on vegetable oil and serves sustainably-produed tacos. In San Francisco, the RoliRoti rotisserie truck serves free-range chicken, heritage pork and local lamb.

Here in Salt Lake City, restaurateur SuAn Chow (remember Charlie Chow's?) and chef Rosanne Ruiz (her last project was developing Vinto's menu) have combined their talents to produce Chow: Haute Asian Cuisine on the Go.

Are we cool or WHAT.

Its inaugural run is January 21—coinciding with the Outdoor Retailer trade show and the Sundance Film Festival. The menu of California/Asian dishes—promised to be healthy and flavorful—is also inexpensive, nothing over $6. Think Fried calamari with chipotle aioli dipping sauce, coconut lemon grass chicken, pineapple ginger pork or panko-fried tofu on your choise of tortilla, slider bun or as a salad.

First stop? Next to Arrow Press Square on West Temple, right across from the Salt Palace. See you there.

Have eaten at the Chow Truck twice now this week! Not much more than to say, unbelievable flavor punch and insanely reasonable prices. I had both the coconut chicken taco with delicious asian cilantro slaw and a spicy beef taco with chili pesto! DELICIOUS! The truck itself is a knockout. Can't miss it, bright yellow and rather hip indeed. When I first pulled up I was greeted kindly by Chef Roseanne and introduced to the spunky, glowing with excitement and last but not least dancing Sue-Anne(sorry for spelling??) Chow. The truck was rocking tunes and was well stocked with chilled beverages awaiting my now more than satisfied palate! YOU HAVE TO CHECK THIS PLACE OUT! I've been following on twitter! Thanks Chow Truck!
