For those who resolved ...to drink more wine

Um, YEAH we're (still) all about Wine Wednesdays.

Grouse, grouse, grouse all you want ...but any excuse to make it through Hump Day with a little V ...is OK ...OK?!

So check it, Wild Grape finna kicks off the last year of the '00s (yes, the 'tweens' don't officially start till '11) ri-zight with a quickie shout to this week's (nay, this new year's) selection: Skylark's '07 'Red Belly' blend.

We like-a-tha Skylark (...SF restauranteurs John Lancaster and Robert Perkins — you know, the guys from Boulevard* *yawnish — take their turn on the vines...)

Fortunately, Lancaster and Perkins chose ...wisely to snap up some of Mendo's best grrrrrapes to roll out their newish label. North Coast, where you at?

The '07 Skylark is 47 percent dry farmed Niemi Carignane, 47 percent Lawyer Vineyard Syrah and 6 percent Sawyer Vineyard Grenache = a nice table wine that won't cork till '20.

This is sooo a mellow coastal melange ...not the overwrought (tannins, tannins, tannins) genetically engineered/sortaNapa CaliCab your mom throws ice cubes in.

This one's kinda smoove (that's wine-o for 'smooth') not dry, not fake oakey ...drink now and it won't crush your food or ruin your mouth for dessert.

$36 at Wine Wednesday (this vintage is disappearing off a lot of on-line shelves... so go gets you a bottle... or four).

Wine Wednesday: 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13

Wild Grape Bistro:
481 East South Temple
Salt Lake City, UT 84111
