Utah's Whiskey River starts here

Many of us have been sipping on High West Distillery’s award-winning rye since it first came out a year or so ago.

And everyone’s been waiting since then for the Distillery itself to open in Park City.

Well, here it comes.

The Distillery is set to open mid-November. The state’s first gastro-saloon is holding a press menu tasting on November 16. Let’s see if their kitchens can match the quality of what’s in the bottles. I personally will let you know.

And as a warm-up, Pago is hosting a whiskey-tasting event and reception. High West owner David Perkins, distiller Brendan Coyle and Katie Flanagan will be on hand to talk about how the spirits are made and guests will taste the Vodka 7000', the Peach Vodka 7000', Rendezbvour Rye, 16-year Rye and 21-year-old Rye.

I assume that how they got 21-year-old Rye from a 2-year-old distillery will also be revealed.

The Pago event is Thursday, November12, at 5 p.m. It’s $15 per person for food plus $40 for the good stuff in the glass. RSVP by November 9th.
