Go From the Slopes to Dinner in Style
Park City’s fashion conundrum: How do you transition from the slopes to cocktails and on to dinner without looking like you just peeled off your ski boots?
“Easily,” says Kathy Burke, apparel buyer for Park City’s über-chic ski shop, ColeSport. “Thanks to the influence of companies that make clothing for both skiing and the runway, color and fabric variety are making ski wear much less technical looking and as easy to wear out for dinner as on the slopes.”
Down, Burke says, is an effortless way to look hip both on and off the hill. Isa Dora’s Nebulina down jacket, with its high neck, quarter length and rib-knit cuffs, looks as at home with a pair of Gore-Tex pants and goggles as it does with skinny jeans and over-the-knee boots.
The fashion quotient of layering pieces has gone way up as well, allowing skiers to keep warm and fashion–forward at the same time. Look for crewnecks and zip turtlenecks in a variety of colors and innovative prints from brands including Jet Set, Hell is for Heroes and Prada. “The new long underwear, so to speak, is very body conscious, full of color, features lots of great prints and designs, and looks as great with ski pants as with jeans or a great pair of leather pants,” Burke says. And thanks to technology, many of these pieces are soft to touch, insulate and dry quickly.
“Ski wear is more alive and fun,” Burke says. “I think this is because people not only want to feel good when they wear it, but everyone is more value–conscious, and while they may still be willing to make an investment for great, original pieces, they want to be able to wear it outside of the lift line.”
