Peking Duck is one of those world-famous-forever dishes, like baked Alaska and beef Wellington. The chic Chinese/Thai downtown restaurant J Wong's Asian Bistro serves the real thing. Order it 24 hours ahead of time and take some friends-it's a huge platter of fat-rimmed duck skin pieces, so shiny they look like plastic, with shrimp toasts, garnished with scallion curls and cucumber fans. It was stellar and so was the rest of the feast: duck stir-fry with fresh sweet pea pods; salt-crusted calamari; salmon in a red Thai curry sauce and a great green papaya salad.
