Here are a few concerts for your radar:
It's Thursday! That means another Twilight Series Concert in Pioneer Park. Tonight it's Girl Talk with Memory Tapes-smaller names than Modest Mouse, so perhaps the 40,000-plus crowd that shocked last week's concert will thin a bit. The entire series is fantastic and the move to Pioneer Park a good idea in theory. Here's hoping tonight's concert is a little less raucous. Gates open at 5 PM, music at 7 PM.
Also tonight: James Taylor and Carole King at Energy Solutions Arena (7:30 PM). It's their Troubadour Reunion-we already mentioned it, Tuesday, but obviously these two are worth the double mention (and then some). As we said before, classic, iconic, magnificent.
Friday, July 16: Rogue Wave hits In the Venue with their fun, indie-folk-pop style. Hailing from Oakland, Zach Schwartz (aka Zach Rogue) founded the band during the dot-com fizzle. Doors at 7 PM.
Saturday, July 17: This will be amazing: Ben Folds, former frontman of (three-piece) Ben Folds Five will play the Deer Valley Amphitheatre with the Utah Symphony as part of the Deer Valley Music Festival. It's truly going to be epic. Ben Folds' piano riffs are lovely on their own, so the symphonic additions will likely blow the roof. Er um, in this case, shoot to the stars. Yeah. The music starts at 7 PM.
Sunday, July 18: These folks are interesting: The Mynabirds, and they're playing Urban Lounge at 8 PM. Their sound might be best described as an alternative mix, however vague that sounds. Sometimes folky, sometimes almost 60's-esque, their tunes are catchy and well, relaxingly pleasant/pleasantly relaxing to listen to. Talented songstress Laura Burhenn leads.
