Though Friday is a big night, as usual, this weekend will be off the hook in the SLC.

Lots of music to suit everyone's ears along with a dose of theatre and fun - starting with Twilight Concert Series' Week IV offering:

THURSDAY, July 29

Of course, it-s Twilight! The New Pornographers play Pioneer Park with the Dodos opening up.

It-s going to be an alt/indie extravaganza, with the usual Twilight Series cool.

Where/When: Pioneer Park. Gates at 5 PM, music at 7PM. Click here for more info.

FRIDAY, July 30

Dar Williams will grace the State Room. It's storytelling at its best, set to gorgeous, folky melodies. Williams' songs can make you tap your feet, sway and cry all at the same time. (At least they do for me.) Her new album, Promised Land features songs that cut to the core, and the artist herself has said that the stories are more pared down than usual.

Where/When: The State Room; doors at 8 PM

...how 'bout a little bit of country:

Tim McGraw with Lady Antebellum at USANA Amphitheatre.

Where/When: 7 PM, USANA Ampitheatre

Also Friday: Gilbert and Sullivan's H.M.S. Pinafore at the Off Broadway Theatre. The old-time comic musical starts this night and runs through Sept. 4 on Monday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 PM.

It's all about class (systems) when the captain's daughter Josephine falls for lowly sailor Ralph, but the poetic songs are fun and actually pretty silly. (I performed in a kids' production back in the 80's, which is kind of silly, too.) It's good fun.

Where/When: Off Broadway Theatre; 7:30 PM

SATURDAY, July 31

Local author Mette Ivie Harrison will read from her new teen novel The Princess and the Snowbird at the King's English Bookshop. It's the final book in a trilogy full of romance, magic and adventure.

Where/When: King's English at 2 PM
