Make sure some of the businesses on your list for the holidays are local. It's not asking a lot, but it's the point of Local First Utah's Buy Local First week.

This year's theme "Take 10 for Local First" basically means you should take 10 minutes to learn why it's important to buy local, tell 10 friends about what you've learned and make at least 10 percent of your holiday shopping at local stores.

The challenge week is Black Friday, Nov. 26 till Dec. 4.

It's a lot easier than you'd think. Here's some of our recommendations this Buy Local First Week.

FOR THE KIDS:

J.W. Allen & Sons, Park City

Pick up some Uglydolls. They're super popular and sell out fast, so give the toy store a call to make sure there are enough in stock before you make the trip. The 12 dolls are $21.99 or you can upgrade to the bigger ones at $39.99.

Little Cherry Blossoms, Ogden

It's cold now, and by Christmas it will be even worse. Yoot by Sorel boots keep toes warm even at 40 below zero, not that we're expecting a forecast with those degrees. $82.

Dr. Volts Comic Connection, SLC

Archie loves Veronica, no...Betty. Well maybe, Veronica. Okay, Betty. Either way Archie Comics sell for only $2.50 at Dr. Volts. They have an entire section of the store dedicated to comics for younger kids.

FOR YOU OR A LOVED ONE:

Peach Boutique

Jessica Kagan Cushman bracelets make a statement in more ways than one: They look awesome, and they have popular phrases to fit your lifestyle. Pick some up for yourself for the holidays. $88.

Sorrel River Ranch

Replenish with a facial designed to your individual skin needs, including a hot honey foot treatment. Just typing this makes me feel relaxed. 50 minutes for only $120.

Wiseguys Comedy Café

Eddie Griffin, the star of Undercover Brother, makes his way to West Valley City for two shows on Dec. 17 and 18. Perfect for an early Christmas date with general admission tix for only $25.
