Help raise cash for the Utah Food Bank but act fast! Walmart has $1 million to hand out to the neediest city and right now we're number two behind Fresno, Calif. The contest hit the streets in May with a decry by Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to spread $2 billion in cash and in-kind treats to help end hunger by 2015. It all ends December 31.

The Fighting Hunger Together Challenge is a Facebook campaign where you get to vote for the most deserving of 100 communities. The winning city's food bank gets $1 million. Food banks in the next top-five winning cities will get $100,000 each.

The Utah Food Bank serves 150 food pantries around the state.

And while we're on the subject...Alta is setting up collection bins for the Utah Food Bank in parking areas on Dec. 31. Anyone coming to ski the last day of the year should bring a canned food item to share. You won't get a discounted lift ticket but at least you'll leave with some warm fuzzies. Alta will keep the collection barrels out through the end of the ski area's annual New Year's Eve Torchlight Parade, which starts at 6 p.m.
