This morning I joined ABC 4's man on the scene Brian Carlson for some live television action at Blue Plate Diner. He's roped me into a new segment on Good Morning Utah on Utah's best breakfast spots as recommended by us truly here at Salt Lake magazine.
Funny enough, the Blue Plate doesn't actually open until seven and Brian starts his stuff at like 6 a.m. (morning TV people are crazy) so the owners of the Blue Plate, Tamrika Khvtisiashvili and John Bouzek, put it up on Facebook and invited all their regulars in for a free breakfast if they could show up in the wee hours to act as extras for our little tele-play.
The Blue Plate is a real SLC gem. Good basic breakfasts with an added twist, many vegetarian and vegan options amid the standard all-American, meat and flapjacks fare. But don't take my world for it. Here's our food critic Mary Brown Malouf's review of this city standby.
"Formica tables, linoleum floors, Elvis kitsch and tunes on the jukebox make this an all-American fave in the neighborhood. Reasonably priced dishes, including pancakes, patty melts and chicken-fried steak in sausage gravy over smashed potatoes and burgers, are comfort food at its best." 2041 S. 2100 East, SLC, 801-463-1151
