You'll find proof Utah has some of the best visual artists around in the book "Painters of Utah's Canyons and Deserts" by Donna Poulton and Vern Swanson. Further proof:  Meyer Gallery's two upcoming shows.

Santiago Michalek's "The Kleinbus Series"

An artist first and a Volkswagen-restorer second, Michalek definitely found a way to combine his passions. Meyer Gallery will be filled with his 25 new paintings of Bugs, Buses and everything VW.

Michalek won back-to-back Springville Art Museum Spring Salon merit awards and is a finalist in Art Magazine's annual Art Competition. He was also named an "Artist to Watch" by Southwest Art.

A reception for Michalek's new show will be July 29 at 6 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Click here for more info

Dave Newman's "Cars, Stars and Guitars"

Newman's work is in the book we mentioned at the beginning of this article. His art has a pop-art influence, but even more cutting edge. He collaborates with Fender's Custom Guitar Shop, and six of his guitars will be at the show. He also does beautiful collage art of American nostalgia, like the above picture "CU on 66."

A reception for Newman's show will be at 6 p.m. Aug. 5 to kick off the Arts Festival weekend. No entry fee and live blues guitar music. Click here for more info.
