Some of you know I've spent the last week in my home state of Texas; let me advise you NOT to plan a vacation there at this time of year. The air-conditioned temperature inside anywhere necessitates having a jacket or sweater handy to cover those bare arms. Then, when you go outside, do a quick strip-down to your spaghetti straps: The temperature is likely to be 110. When the sun goes down, it cools off to maybe 85.
So I was glad to get home where I can drink my coffee outside in the morning and eat al fresco any time of day. And a message from Park City's Historic District was perfectly timed: Nine restaurants on Main Street now offer outdoor dining, that's up from four restaurants in 2010.
Yeah, I know. This is what we call a "duh" proposition, seems like the streets of a mountain town with views would be lined with dining patios. But for a long time only the few restaurants with existing patio facilities served outside. Now restaurants are constructing temporary sidewalk dining areas just for the summer season.
Steve McComb, owner of Bistro 412 and Cisero's Restaurant and Nightclub, presented the idea and now lots of Main Street restaurants have summer patios, including 501 on Main, Bandits, Bangkok Thai, Bistro 412, Ciseros, Eating Establishment, Flannagans, Main Street Pizza and Noodle and Shabu. Plus Grappa, Talisker, High West, Cafe Terigo, Zoom, Easy Street and the other usual suspects.
