No arguments here, it's a slow start to the week. But there are still some fun reasons to get out and about as we patiently await the holiday weekend. Let's take a look.

The biggest event this week is a double-bill that's darn-near nauseating to me - but certainly not everyone - on Wednesday night when '80s hard-rock stalwarts Def Leppard invade USANA Ampitheatre for a show, along with '70s radio rockers, Heart. Armed with video pablum such as "Pour Some Sugar On Me," and "Hysteria," to say nothing of the cheezoid-rock defining "Armageddon It," the British rockers have sold more than 65 million records. So vocalist Joe Elliott and Co., probably don't cry about the fact that I've despised pretty much everything they've done after 1983's "Pyromania."

I'd likely fare better during Heart's set. The aging divas of Ann and Nancy Wilson have had hits with nearly a dozen songs that remain surprisingly cool despite nearly constant radio play spanning five decades. Spare me the group's schmaltzy '80s video smashes and keep the cold brews coming and I could have a decent time - maybe. The music starts at 7:30 p.m. for an outdoor show that shouldn't encounter rain, but could be a tad warm until the sun sets. Tickets start at $29 and are available at smithstix.com.

A good batch of local rock bands are grouped together Tuesday night at The Urban Lounge when The Beat Surrender, Poor Wills and Spirit Master play a 10 p.m. gig. Tickets are $5 and available only at the door.

And Tuesday also offers a, funky, reggae-fueled option at The State Room when California's Groundation plays an 8 p.m. show. This might be the sleeper show of the week. Tickets are $22, remain on sale and start at $22. Here is the nine-piece band live:

An entertaining non-musical option for Wednesday is Ignite Salt Lake, which involves 20 slide-show presentations featuring any kind of topic you can imagine. And it's fast-paced, with each slide only airing for 15 seconds. Salt Lake is one of 30 cities nationwide participating in the program. Admission is free for this 7:30 p.m. event down at The State Room, and seating is first-come, first-served.

Another non-musical option is that the city's annual theatrical treats, "Saturday's Voyeur," has extended its annual run of left-leaning humor through Sept. 11. Tickets are available for this Wednesday's show, starting at $39 at Salt Lake Acting Company.

And finally, this is the last homestand of the Bees' season, so if want to enjoy some quality Triple A baseball, head down to Spring Mobile Ballpark. I hope to make it out there at least one night this week.
