Whoa, dude! For four days around Sundance, action sports athletes and filmmakers arrive in Park City and SLC for a festival of their own.

The films X-Dance receives hundreds of submissions from around the world, making it an international event. Every film involves action sports, from snowboarding to surfing. Awards are given in the expected categories, but the 2012 fest has added awards for trailers, film segments and films shot from athletes’ perspectives.

Athletes Fans flock to see who won the Athlete of the Year Award. In the past, it’s been given to legends like Tony Hawk, and last year, snowboarder Jeremy Jones. Attendance by at least one representative of each film is required, so it’s a great chance to meet top athletes.

Music Ozomatli played the awards event at Harry O’s last year, and Goldfinger, P.O.D. and Talib Kweli have also performed at past festivals.
