It's not February yet. But heck, if you haven't started thinking about what you're doing for your sweetie on Valentine's Day, you are more than a little behind the times!

Lucky for you, Salt Lake's arts community has you covered. And is there anything more romantic than music? This music nerd posits, nope. Chocolate-covered strawberries from V Chocolate excepted (hint hint to my husband!).
To get worked up to Valentine's Day, here are a few pre-Feb. 14 concerts to keep on your radar:

Feb. 3 - 4: Duh Duh Duh DUUUUUM! The most famous four notes in history will be performed by Utah Symphony. You can be certain that Maestro Thierry Fischer will make Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 as fresh, exciting, and new as the rest of his "Beethoven Countdown" has been (the Utah Symphony is performing all nine of Beethoven's symphonies -- and one opera -- in reverse order this season). Also on the program is a world-premiere cello concerto! Few things are more exciting than new music! Call 801-533-NOTE (6683). Utah Symphony's Cadenza group (for the 55+) is attending the Feb. 3 concert. Tickets are $30 and their pre-concert dinner is at Ruth's Chris (dinner costs extra). Utah Symphony's Vivace (for the 20-40 ish) is attending the Feb. 4 concert. Tickets are $55 and includes their after-party at J. Wong's Asian Bistro. Come alone and sit with other music nerds, bring that certain someone you're hoping to turn into your Valentine's date, or bring your Valentine! More info: usuo.org/cadenza and usuo.org/vivace.

Feb. 9: Broadway Bound? at Salty Cricket Composers Collective. This sassy group performs the works of composers currently living in Utah. This concert marks their first foray into the world of Broadway and Musical Theatre. With fully-staged scenes from five works in progress, this concert is sure to be exciting. The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Black Box of the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $15, $10 for students, call 801-355-ARTS (2787) or visit arttix.org to purchase. More info: saltycricket.org.

Feb. 12: Chamber music by Stravinsky, Bach, and Mozart @ NOVA Chamber Music Series. Performed by musicians of Utah Symphony, this unique chamber series is always gorgeous music that surprises. All I have to hear is Stravinsky to be there! Their concerts are at 3:00pm at the U's Libby Gardner Concert Hall. Visit http://novachambermusicseries.org/ for ticketing info.
Give Your Valentine Tickets for a Valentine's Gift! Here are some post-Valentines day gift ideas for your honey:
Feb. 22: Faure Piano Quartett @ Chamber Music Society of Salt Lake. The seminal piano quartet of Europe, this group will perform Faure's seminal work for this instrument configuration. I'm so there. Tickets are $25. Visit cmsofslc.org for more info.

Feb. 27: Psalms and Symphonies @ Utah Chamber Artists. This concert features an evening of works with texts from the Book of Psalms as well as some purely symphonic works. The centerpiece for the evening is Stravinsky's Symphony of Psalms. The University of Utah Singers will join UCA on this concert to make the chorus even more weighty and thrilling! Again, Stravinsky, I'm so there.
