Meanwhile, the James Beard Foundation's Restaurant and Chef Awards semi-finalists were announced today. These are the most prestigious food awards in the country, and two Utah restaurants made the cut.
For the second year in a row, Viet Pham and Bowman Brown of Forage are semi-finalists in the Best Chef in the Southwest category.

And High West Distillery & Saloon is a semi-finalist in the Best New Restaurant category.

Utah's culinary reputation is spreading. Last year, Bill White, the (young) godfather of cuisine in Utah, was a semi-finalist in the Restaurateur category.
