Tonight's one of the not-so common nights in Salt Lake City when residents can choose between seeing the Jazz basketball team and actual world-class jazz music. For me, it's an easy choice with the home team scuffling and the non-exciting San Antonio Spurs in town. I'll take real jazz down at the Capitol Theatre, as jazz vocalist extraordinaire Jane Monheit performs some simmering torch songs. This should be a stellar night of live music. Also, if you haven't checked out the JazzSLC's new home at the Capitol, do yourself a favor.

But if you insist on seeing some hoops, tickets for Jazz-Spurs are at smithstix.com.

Also this week, Lake Tahoe's Dead Winter Carpenters pay a visit to The Urban Lounge at 10 p.m. Local bluegrassers Puddle Mountain Ramblers open the gig. Tickets start at $7 and are available at 24tix.com
