A few cultured options highlight a good weekend of entertainment here in the Salt Lake Valley. Let's look at what we can do. On Friday and Saturday, the Utah Symphony will present a terrific twin bill of music by Rachmaninoff and Beethoven. Guest pianist Andre Watts will be on hand both nights to perform Rachmaninoff's 2nd PIano Concerto. Meanwhile, the symphony, led by conductor Thierry Fischer will continue its Beethoven countdown by playing the gorgeous, emotive Fourth Symphony. Tickets remain on sale for both nights.

Also, Thursday night, KCPW 88.3 is hosting NPR's "Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me" show which will air Saturday on the station at 10 a.m.

And Friday night, don't miss San Francisco rocker Chuck Prophet, pictured above, and his band The Mission Express playing a two-set gig at The State Room. This under-the-radar act is definitely worth investigating, especially if you've heard their latest release, "Temple Beautiful." Let's hope they also drop a few tunes from Prophet's Waylon Jennings' tribute album from 2008. Tickets remain on sale for the 9 p.m. show.

Also, don't forget that Oregon indie songwriter Laura Gibson will be at Kilby Court on Saturday. That should be a memorable gig. Tickets (just $8) remain available. Music starts at 7 p.m.
