With warmer weather (finally) arriving in SLC, there are a couple of good ways to spend the evenings around town after spending the afternoons outdoors. Let's look at your best bets, shall we?

A couple of talented "bluegrass" groups, one from Chicago and the other from the Bay area, take turns headlining on back-to-back nights Tuesday and Wednesday at The State Room. Cornmeal and Hot Buttered Rum are both "bluegrass" bands that use the genre as a launching pad into many other musical realms. Cornmeal really pushes the boundaries, with the ability to stretch into prog-rock, reggae and over into bluegrass within 15 minutes, and sometimes inside the same song.

Hot Buttered Rum, based in San Francisco, features many talented pickers and is a staple on the outdoor festival circuit, especially here in the West. Tickets are $20 per night or $35 for both nights.

On Wednesday night, don't miss local hardcore rockers Summer in Alaska as they headline a 6:30 p.m. gig at Kilby Court. Tickets are $8.

Another option Wednesday is to get your '90s on out at the SaltAir as the latest incarnation of Sublime with Rome headlines a 7 p.m. gig. Fellow former big-time band, Everlast, will open the show. Tickets are $30 in advance.
