Cupcakes. This delightful word will become an inspiration for the transforming not-so-delightful issue of hunger in the U.S. into installation art of sobering commentary.
The Utah Museum of Contemporary Art will display Elizabeth Tobias's new exhibition "Let Them Eat Cupcakes" (The Cupcake Project), and visitors will get her homemade cupcakes when they are willing to share an idea or memory about hunger on an index card, on April 6 from 8 to 10 p.m.
This title refers to the statement of French Queen Marie Antoinette who said, "Let them eat cake," when her subjects were starving for lack of bread.
The hunger index cards from the evening, as well as from the performance in L.A., Boston and other cities, will be arranged in inside a colofully lit tent surrounded by images of confectionery sprinkles, and on view through May 19.
But don't miss the performance on April 6, or you won't get a cupcake. Fight hunger, get a sweet treat.
