Have you ever seen a performance where a piece of choreography literally gives you the chills because it's so moving and powerful? There are a few great pieces of choreography that I have seen in the last few years that have done just that; Jo Stromgren’s Kraak, Susan Marshall’s Cloudless, Glen Tetley’s Mythical Hunters immediately come to mind.

One of these works that I watched as part of Repertory Dance Theatre’s Elements performance is Eric Handman’s Ghost Ship. This piece left me absolutely breathless. The dancers' movements are fast and flowing, the music haunting.

This weekend you have the opportunity to not only see this piece but also works of local choreographers Satu Hummasti, Nicholas Cendese and Natosha Washington, as well as Susan McLain. Repertory Dance Theatre’s PASSAGE interprets ideas of relationships, memories and history through dance, singing, speech and 120 pounds of falling rice.

RDT performs Satu Hummasti's Songs I Wanna Sing (to you)

Three of the four pieces of PASSAGE were commissioned for RDT including Susan McLain’s Karyo (1996), Satu Hummasti’s Songs I Wanna Sing (to you) (2010), and most recently, Nicholas Cendese & Natosha Washington’s What You Leave Behind (2012).

The creation of the world premier of Nicholas Cendese & Natosha Washington’s What you leave behind has been documented through a LIVE blog. Click here to see their process, videos and how their ideas grew into movement.

The Leona Wagner Black Box Theatre is a very intimate, smaller theater. If you are sitting in the front rows, you feel so close to the dancers that it is almost like you are sharing the stage and the space with them.

It is the perfect way to see this amazing choreography.

RDT will dedicate this show to an esteemed and valued friend, Susan McLain who tragically passed away on August 5, 2011.
