Tonight and tomorrow night, downtown Salt Lake's streets will be full of strolling diners, eating their way from restaurant to restaurant during the annual Tastemakers event.

I think we can finally safely say that summer is here. For the next few months, we'll all be soaking up all the sunshine we can, which means restaurants with great patios will be packed. Here's a reminder of the great outdoor eating places.

First, and open just in time for Tastemakers, is Pallet's  (237 S. 400 West) new patio, every bit as charming as the rest of this style-setting restaurant. Call 801-935-4431.

Caffe Molise's (55 W. 100 South) patio is almost as large as the restaurant. The pool and pretty shade trees make it a great event location as well as a place to linger Italian-style with a glass of wine. Call 801-364-8833.

Faustina (454 E. 300 South) has just completed a major renovation and expansion of what was already one of Salt Lake's favorite patios. On Tuesday, May 22, they are celebrating with complimentary passed appetizers during dinner service from 4:30 - 9 p.m. Chef Billy Sotelo will be rolling out several new cocktails, wines and summer menu items. The patio at Oasis (151 S. 500 East), Faustina's sister restaurant, always, well, an oasis, has developed an even mellower vibe over time, cheerful in the morning, soothing and romantic in the evening. Call 801-322-0404.

Don't overlook the wistaria-draped patio next to Pinon Market & Cafe (2095 E. 1300 South) ; yes, this is mostly a takeout restaurant, but the truth is, you don't need to take it far. Just alongside the deli space is a shady hidden enclave. Call 801) 582-4539.

Caffe Niche (779 East Broadway) has been working on its patio, too, and with Ethan Lappe in sole charge of the kitchen these days, the menu is seeing all kinds of changes, too.
