The year is almost over, and it's time for the Sundance Institute to plan the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, which will take place Jan. 17–27. As in years past, Sundance Institute has a whole list of exciting and exclusive events, passes and tickets available for its thousands of local attendees.

For starters, locals-only festival pass and ticket package registration starts Sept. 18 and ends Oct. 10.

Click here to register, and you will receive an email on Oct. 12 with a randomly-assigned time slot to purchase festival passes and ticket passes online in January. Descriptions of these special locals-only deals can be found here.

Other Festival benefits for Utah residents include free screening events.

Free Best of Fest screenings will be held on Jan. 28. Tickets for the Best of Fest screenings will be available for pickup at any main box office in Ogden, Park City, Salt Lake City and Sundance Resort on Jan. 12 with a valid Utah ID.

Tickets for the Free Townie Tuesday screening for Summit County residents can be picked up the same time at the Park City Main Box Office. The Townie Tuesday screening will take place on Jan. 22.

There are also plenty of opportunities to volunteer at the Festival.  Each year more than 1,800 people, about half from Utah, are selected to help in all areas of the festival from working theater entrances to shuttle stops. Click here for volunteer applications.
