Mentors International, a nonprofit organization helping women in poverty, is pleased to present their 2012 Gala at the Downtown Marriott at City Creek on Friday, Nov. 2.
Mentors International is based in Draper with several other branches across the world including the Phillippines, Guatemala, Peru, El Salvador and Honduras. The guiding principle of the organization is “a hand-up, not a handout,” which they follow by providing micro-loans to women around the globe in an attempt to help them start a business and support their families. Mentor also provides training for these aspiring women, creating new jobs and giving the poor in developing countries opportunities to become self-reliant.
It's different from most organizations in that it requires full repayment of loans based on individual circumstances with the hope and goal that their clients will experience an increase in motivation and income because of the tools of knowledge given to them by Mentors, making them more self-sufficient and able to help other poverty-stricken people.

Vocalist Dallyn Bayles will perform at the gala
