THE PHILADELPHIA STORY, PIONEER MEMORIAL THEATRE, Friday, Jan. 11-Jan. 26, Various Times, $25-$44

In recent years, the folks at the Pioneer Theatre Company have used the slot right after the holidays to showcase a relatively unknown playwright, or a somewhat edgy show. This year, they are flipping that idea on its head, delivering a classic bit of period fluff with The Philadelphia Story. The story, for the unfamiliar, involves the wealthy sophisticate Tracy on her wedding weekend--a weekend thrown into turmoil by the arrival of her ex-husband and a couple of nosy reporters to her family's country estate where the wedding is set to take place. Hilarity, naturally, ensues. I'll deliver a complete review next week, but fans of the farcical crowd-pleaser are sure to be in good hands with Pioneer's production.
