On Friday, July 19, Roosters Brewing Co. and Beehive Cheese will host the 7th annual Union of the Birds and the Bees, a beer and cheese pairing event, with proceeds benefitting the Union Station Foundation, an organization dedicated to preserving Ogden's community history and culture through the conservation of the historic train depot.
"We are passionate about being in the heart and soul of Ogden," says Kym Buttschardt, who co-opened community favorite Roosters Brewing Company with her husband Pete in 1994. "The historic station is an anchor," she says, and while once a major vein of railroad travel throughout the Intermountain West, it has now become a natural gathering space for the community.
The party takes place from 7 to 10 p.m. at Ogden's Union Station, with local band Shades of Grey entertaining in the outdoor Fountain Plaza. Food and beverage will be served in the Grand Lobby, where patrons will be treated to delicacies creatively combined from both Roosters brews and award winning Beehive cheeses, such as: Beer and Beehive Cheese Fondue, Diamondback Ale Glazed Pork Drumsticks and Carne Asada with Beehive Smoked Habanero Tacos. Creminelli Fine Meats, Amour Spreads and local growers also donated their specialties to this event.
Historically famous as a junction city for railway passengers in the 1860s, Union Station stands as a proud reminder of the historic role Ogden played as a national connection of the East to the West. Today, the 89 year old station contains four museums, including the Utah State Railroad Museum, as well as an art gallery and several banquet rooms for rental, perfect for weddings and other special occasions.
Organizers expect this event will sell out quickly. Click here to purchase tickets online, which are $50 and include a commemorative glass to mark the occasion. Tickets are also available at Roosters Ogden or Layton locations or at Union Grill.
