I am excited and honored to be collaborating with Salt Lake Magazine on a monthly style column. My vision is to bring you style bytes that will help make your mornings easier, your wardrobes smarter, and your attitude a bit more confidant.
Fall trends are here in force – especially leather! Leather is the ‘must-have’ addition this season and it is on everything from jewelry, to leggings, to tops, and even dresses. I must admit that it took me a little time to come around to leather – but that’s the fun of fashion, you have the ability to change, and grow, and try new things. As with every trend, you need to make sure that your making the trend work for you. If it doesn’t work – ditch it.
Remember that trends come and go, so it is paramount that you stay authentic to your style. But if you are as excited with the trend as I am, than here are some easy style bytes to make it work for you.
Be bold: Try leather leggings with a black moto bootie, cropped tee, and maybe even a cropped denim jacket (preferably one that is a bit tattered – by design of course). Choose an edgy dangle earring, a necklace with some toughness, or a small cross-body purse. Don’t over accessorizing this look – too much will make it look contrived.
Experiment: If you don’t want to be so bold, but like the idea of leather leggings – try ones with a leather panel in the front (leather in the front and Ponte in the back). They are more forgiving and a bit easier to wear. Throw on a tall black riding boot, a colored top, and a long car coat. Add delicate jewelry to soften the look and tote a larger bag.
Minimalist: If you are just looking for a pop of leather, then ditch the leather leggings in favor of a beautiful blouse with leather trim, or a top with a leather pocket, or even a leather jacket. Pair it with your favorite jeans and booties, or little ballet flats. Complete the look with a leather-accented piece of jewelry or bag. Keep it simple and comfortable.
Party Time: There is no better way to have fun than with a great little flirty dress. Pick a dress that has leather straps, piping, or even leather sequins. Dress it up with fun heals and a clutch, or dress it down with a leather jacket and bootie. Keep the jewelry simple to allow the leather accents to shine.
Hopefully these looks will help make the trend more wearable. As always, keep it simply, authentic, and fun! Thanks for letting me share my style bytes with your wardrobe.
