Since the holidays are all about eating, kissing and eating some more, it's about time for an ultra long-wearing lip color or two. As Thanksgiving approaches, get your hands on a formula that won't immediately dissolve as you eat or leave lip marks on the rim of your glass.

Here are a few tips to get the most out of your long-wearing lipstick.

1. Moisturize. Long-wearing lipsticks can sometimes be drying, so a few minutes before applying the color, apply a moisturizing lip balm. Throughout the day, refresh your color and moisture with a few dabs of clear lip balm.

2. Apply it with a lip brush. This helps to coat the lips more evenly and distribute the right amount of product so your lips don't look cakey.

3. Pair it with a liner. Lining the lips not only sets a good base for the lipstick, but it also helps it blend more easily. Just don't forget to blend it all with a lip brush or the tip of your finger!

4. Blot gently. After applying the color, gently blot lips by lightly kissing a piece of tissue. This technique is better than "biting" down on the tissue, which can unevenly remove too much color.

NARS Lipstick, shown in 'Heat Wave' (Available at Sephora and Nordstrom) - The thick, matte formula goes on smoothly and evenly and wears like a dream. As in, you have to wipe it (and wipe it and wipe it) off to remove the vibrant color.

Stila All Day Vinyl Lip Gloss, shown in 'Scarlet Vinyl' (Available at Sephora) - Don't let the term "lip gloss" fool you. This formula gives a high-pigment, lacquered finish without the drying affect of many lip stains.

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar, shown in Annika (Available here) - Not to worry, it's not as sticky as the name suggests. A little bit of this liquid matte finish goes a long way and is effortless to apply with a brush or your fingertip.

CoverGirl Lip Perfection lipstick, shown in 'Eternal' (Available at Target) - Get a little bang for your buck with this less expensive lipstick that's available just about everywhere. It's a little more drying, though, so keep that gloss handy.

MAC Pro Longwear Lip Cream (Available at Macy's) - The lightweight, creamy texture glides on smoothly, yet stays put for a good 12 hours without feathering or transferring.
