If you're off work for the week of Christmas, here are a few ways of our favorite ways to celebrate the season this year. If you're not, make sure you squeeze in some time to get out and celebrate the season. (In Utah Valley? Click here for local ways to celebrate.)


Candy Windows at Macy's

Macy's Candy Windows at City Creek were unveiled on Nov. 21 and will remain up for the holiday season. Six local artists, including returning artist Babs de Lay and the Salt Lake Community College visual merchandising class, worked on the project.

Stein Eriksen Lodge's Gingerbread House

Check out the Lodge's giant Dispicable Me-themed gingerbread house with the kids. Executive Pastry Chef Ann Giles created the house with two assistants over the course of three weeks. It made its lobby debut in early December, complete with a working disco ball.

Ice Castle in Midway

Ice Castles, LLC is bringing a massive castle made entirely of ice to Midway. The ice castle features lofty ice towers, shimmering archways, glowing tunnels and glossy walls on display at Zermatt Resort. The castle opens to the public on New Year's Day.

ZooLights at Utah's Hogle Zoo

Wildlife meets wild lights at Utah's Hogle Zoo. Enjoy everything you'd normally enjoy at the zoo, along with over 250 animated light displays. The lights will be up through Dec. 31 (closed Christmas Day).

23rd International Community Christmas Celebration

The Latino Community Center and the Utah Cultural Celebration Center are teaming up for a Christmas event on Dec. 21. Two events lead up to a big performance—toy distribution and free pizza and sodas for kids under 12 at 5 p.m., and a pre-show with Mariachi Sol de Jalisco at 6:45 p.m. The International Christmas program, featuring over 200 performers, is at 7 p.m. The night ends with a kids' prize raffle at 9 p.m.

Park City Mountain Resort's 50th Anniversary Celebration

Park City Mountain Resort is celebrating 50 years on Saturday, Dec. 21 with a full day of programs, including a ribbon-cutting ceremony and guest remarks, live music, DJs in the resort base area, birthday cupcakes and a free concert by Robert Randolph and the Family Band, plus fireworks. Lifts open at 9 a.m., fireworks starts at 5:15 p.m.

Ski with Santa & Mrs. Claus

Bringing some Christmas cheer to the slopes, Santa and Mrs. Claus will ski Snowbird before taking the first flight back to the North Pole, before the old man's worldwide toy delivery. Hang out with the holiday power couple from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on New Year's Eve.

A Snow White Christmas

A Snow White Christmas doesn't really have a whole lot to do with Christmas, other than actually being set during the holidays, but it's still a spectacular. Watch the retelling of Snow White for modern audiences, starring David Osmond and Amy Whitcomb of NBC's The Voice. If you're a pop music or dance fan, this show is a must. Elf - The Musical

A musical adaption of the film Elf, which took Broadway by storm, makes its way to Pioneer Theatre's stage. The show runs through Dec. 24, and kids in grades K–12 get in for half price Mondays and Tuesdays.

Red Butte Garden's Winter Solstice Celebratrion

Create head wreaths, winter candles and sip hot chocolate, while celebrating the winter solstice in the Children's Garden with the family. You'll also be able to make a New Year's wish at Red Butte Garden's Yule-log.

Faustina's Festive Holiday Feasts

On Christmas Eve, Faustina will be open for lunch and dinner (4:30 to 8 p.m.) with a special winter menu, plus two options for set-price, three-course specials: turkey dinner for $29 and prime rib for $35. Both come with a soup or salad and dessert.

Bambara's Christmas

On Christmas Eve, Bambara offers breakfast (7 to 10 a.m.), lunch (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.)., and Chef Nathan Powers' dinner menu and seasonal specials (5:30 to 9 p.m.). On Christmas, Bambara will only be open for dinner (5:30 to 9 p.m.).

350 Main's Prix Fixe Menu

350 Main will offer a prix fixe menu of contemporary American-, Asian- and Italian-inspired dishes during the holidays. For dessert, have a blueberry streusel with champagne sorbet or molten chocolate cake with carmel hazelnut praline and fresh creme.

Waldorf Astoria's Powder Ice Lounge

First, check out our preview post on the Powder Ice Lounge. Nice, right? Make sure to spend some time in the Ice Lounge for the holidays. On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, Powder will offer a buffet with items like baked ham with orange cranberries chutney, slow roasted prime rib with horseradish cream au jus and Scottish salmon with lemon beurre blanc. Dinner is 5 to 10 p.m.
