Daily specials—home-cooked Italian style—and dependable Southern Italian basics have made Cucina Vanina a favorite in the three years it's been open. Besides the food—a full menu and a list of assagini or Italian tapas, this cheerful place has a specialty grocery section, offers dinners to go and features live music. This is not new-fangled Italian, but what you might call cliche Italian—meatballs, carbonara, ravioli, lasagne, caprese. You know all the words. But you might have forgotten that these familiar dishes could taste this good.
Next Monday, March 10, chef-owner Vanina Meystre-Pirollo will say thanks to all her regular customers by serving a complimentary shrimp appetizer when they wish their server "happy anniversary."
