Have you tried oil pulling yet? Have you even heard about it?
Unless you've been living under a rock, you should know by now that certain types of cooking oils (particularly cocount oil) have become a major staple in society these days.
We use coconut oil for everything from deep conditioning hair treatment to skin moisturizers to swishing around in our mouths in a technique known as "oil pulling."
Supposedly, oil pulling is great for your teeth and mouth because it removes toxins and bacteria, and some swear it whitens teeth, naturally fills in cavities, and even helps with weight loss.
HERE'S HOW TO DO IT:
Step 1: Measure approximately 1 tablespoon of oil, such as coconut oil (if you're using this one, I'd suggest melting it before putting it in your mouth), olive oil, sunflower oil or sesame oil, and swish it for 20 minutes. That's right I said twenty. minutes. That means find a slot of your day that doesn't require conversation. Make your bed, catch up on emails, walk the dog, whatever. Just keep that stuff sitting and swirling in your mouth.
Step 2: After the 20 minutes are up, spit the oil out into the garbage can. This is important because if you spit it into the sink, it can clog the drain.
Step 3: At this point, you can brush your teeth, either with plain old water or toothpaste. Some choose to let oil pulling replace brushing altogether, swearing their mouths feel just as clean and refreshed without it. You choose.
Step 4: Repeat regularly and reap the results.
