BAND OF SKULLS, IN THE VENUE,  Saturday, May 17, 7:30 p.m. $20

Band of Skulls formed a decade ago, and the band's career is a distinctly modern story. Like many bands, they started by playing dive bars in their college town, before getting a record deal. That’s when Band of Skulls career took off thanks to avenues unavailable to bands of yesteryear. First they made a deal with iTunes to exclusively release their debut album before the rest of the world got a listen. They landed a song on the TV soundtrack for “Friday Night Lights,” as well as on the video game “Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock,” and later got a song on the soundtrack for one of the “Twilight” movies. Having done all they could to gain exposure, Band of Skulls now find themselves with a growing audience that loves their bombastic guitar-rock. The band’s new album was released this spring. It’s called Himalayan, and it’s Band of Skulls best yet. Sacco opens the show.
