C. Jane Kendrick was a girl with a dream, a girl with a dream who actually went after it. In 2010, she launched Provo’s Rooftop Concert Series to give a leg up to other dreamers. Growing in popularity, the concerts feature local artists and bands created and nurtured in Provo, Utah. Once a month. Free. Come one, come all.
Cory Mon kicks off the show. Mon is known for his twang and poetic lyrics. “Music, my blessing, my curse, it’s in me and it must come out. I can't help it, I must play, write, compose and perform,” he says.
Next, you'll see Van Lady Love, led by Travis Van Hoff, who feels the most necessary things for music-making are “a van, a good lady and doing what you love.” Their recipe: a classic rock influence, a dash of the new and really good lyrics.
We Are the Strike is the closing act. Their goal: to sound unlike any other band you’ve heard. All nine members represent a mélange of musical backgrounds, so rehearsals keep the ideas flying as they aim to create a type of music that is pure, bang, new.
The show will be on the third level of the parking garage at 100 N. 100 West, Provo at 7:30 p.m., doors open at 6 p.m. If sitting on a blanket or chair is your thing, it is recommended that you come early to set up. Or spend that extra time at the Downtown Provo Gallery Stroll along Center Street, also free, starting at 6 pm.
