Is there a more American way to celebrate this country’s independence than with a Western rodeo? Ask anyone in Oakley, Utah and the answer is a resounding “no.” The 79th annual Oakley Rodeo and 4th of July Celebration returns to the Oakley Recreation Complex, July 2–5, for four days of rope swinging, horse bucking entertainment.

Cowboys, cowgirls, rodeo clowns and rodeo queens will all make their debut in the arena as they kick off the evening event with calf roping, bull riding, bareback and saddle bronc riding, and barrel racing.

If you think this is just another small town rodeo, consider that over 20,000 people turn out for the four-day festival. Expect tickets to be sold out for the shows on Friday, July 4 and Saturday, July 5. Tickets are still available for July 2 and 3 and the shows are just as rowdy.

Whether or not you snagged tickets to the rodeo on Independence Day itself, additional events earlier in the day include a 5k race, parade, barbeque and junior rodeo on July 4th.

The Oakley Rodeo starts at 8 p.m. each night and includes a post-rodeo fireworks show. All tickets are $15. For more information on the Oakley Rodeo, call the Oakley City Office at 435-783-5753 or visit
