West Valley has no shortage of entertainment venues—Maverik Center, USANA, Wiseguys—but not too many non-fast-food lunch spots.

Luckily, Shula’s 347 Grill opened its first Utah location recently in the Embassy Suites (3524 South Market St.) across from Valley Fair Mall.

Named for the winningest coach in NFL history Don Shula (347 games), you can expect pretty standard American fare—short ribs, steaks, chicken sandwiches and fried stuff on the side. The atmosphere is a step above your average sports bar with a chic look, but the builders clearly didn’t know about Utah’s Zion curtain law—our cocktails were made far from the bar and carried across the restaurant.

While we envision a few spilled drinks in Shula's future, due to the voyage, go for the burgers. Each patty is a blend of Black Angus chuck, short rib and brisket and served on a brioche style bun.

Shula Burger, sans cheese

Your choices: Shula Burger (your classic cheese burger with lettuce, tomato and pickle), The House of Blue (blue cheese, red onion jam, balsamic greens), Shula’s BBQ Burger (applewood smoked bacon, cheddar cheese and BBQ sauce), Wine Country Burger (roasted bell peppers, fresh goat cheese, balsamic greens and roasted tomato) and the French Onion Burger (caramelized onions, double gruyere cheese, garlic mayo and crushed croutons). Stop by and order one before your next Grizzlies game.

If you order a cocktail, give your server a good tip for having to carry it so far.

Grizzlies season starts in October, but you can get your season tickets now.
