Check out the many events going on during Tomato Days. Here are all of the ways to celebrate directly from Wasatch Community Gardens:
Now–Sept. 6: Tomato Haiku Contest
Write a tomato-themed haiku using the standard 5-7-5 style. Enter your haiku(s) on the Wasatch Community Gardens' Facebook page, Twitter @outreachWCG, and Instagram @wasatchcommunitygardens using the hashtag #wasatchcommunitygardens. Each time you enter a haiku, you will be entered into an opportunity drawing with the chance to win wonderful tomato-themed prizes.
Enter your haikus now through midnight on Sept. 5 or in person at the Tomato Sandwich Party (see below). A drawing for all the prizes will be held at 1 p.m. at the Tomato Sandwich Party. You will need to be present to claim your prize.
Sept. 1–30: Tomato Days Dine-Around Instagram Contest
Each time you Instagram a photo, you will be entered in an opportunity drawing. Each week, Wasatch Community Gardens will pick a winner for wonderful prizes. Only one entry per person per visit will be entered into the opportunity drawing.
Weekly drawing deadlines will be Sundays at midnight. Photos entered after that time will be considered in the next week’s drawing. Weekly drawings will take place each Monday after the Sunday deadlines. A grand prize winner for all entries (even weekly winners) will be determined on Oct. 6.
Sept. 1–30: Tomato Days Dine-Around
Wasatch Community Gardens is teaming up with local restaurants and growers by providing a special, tomato-themed menu item at select restaurants. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Wasatch Community Gardens and their community and education programs.
The following restaurants will be participating: Avenues Bistro, The Copper Onion, Finca, Caffe Niche, Pago, The Tin Angel Cafe, and The Annex by Epic Brewing.
Sept. 6: Tomato Sandwich Party
From 11 a.m.–2 p.m., enjoy an afternoon sampling the fruits of an heirloom tomato harvest at the Grateful Tomato Garden. You can taste different varieties of heirloom tomatoes grown in the Youth Gardens, with pesto made from homegrown basil, and locally made bread—for free.
