November Arts At A Glance In SLC

One of the main reasons I love living in Salt Lake is the plethora of arts related activities and options. We have everything from classical music to heavy metal, from Broadway theater to community productions, from break dancing to ballet. There is something for just about every interest and, perhaps more importantly, something at every price. Here are a few events you can take advantage of this month: In just a few weeks the Natural History Museum of Utah will open in its new location.  They are holding a Grand Opening Community Gala on Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. For more information, visit the museum's website. The new space opens to the public Nov. 18. At Hale Centre Theatre you can see My Fair Lady, the beloved Broadway musicial that scored six Tony Awards. My Fair Lady plays Monday-Saturday evenings, and Saturday afternoons, through Nov. 26. Visit Hale Theatre for more info and tickets. Read More

Ballet West Gala, Snapshots and more

Once a month I'll be giving you the low down on all things dance in Salt Lake City. The month of November is jam packed with dance performances to see, but before I go into the details of all that is happening this month, I wanted to say a fond farewell to dance critic Dorothy Stowe. She was the full time Deseret News opera, dance and performing arts critic from 1976-1995 and continued to write reviews for several years after. She also wrote for Opera News and Dance magazine and organized the Temple Square Concert series as well as produced several KBYU radio shows. She was a huge part of the growing Utah Arts Community in its formative years and she will be very missed. Stowe passed away on Oct. 27 at the age of 89. Read More

Twitter has spoken: Here's all the camera phone pictures of City Creek Center

We got such great feedback from the live Tweeting we did during last week's media tour of City Creek Center, we figured we'd put them up for closer review. Below find the best an iPhone 4 can do on a cold morning in the new heart of Salt Lake's downtown. The City Creek Center will open on March 22, 2012. FYI. They sky above can be obscured by roof. Should the need arise. Probably won't in Utah. Read More

The big pig party: take a peek, in case you missed it

Downtown Farmers Market celebrated the end of a huge season—tomorrow's the last day—with a whole pig roast at Fair Park on Wednesday evening. I wasn't able to go, but my trusty hungry husband Glen Warchol went, camera in hand, to be my eyes and ears. Read More
