American Cancer Society's Hope Gala officially kicked off the Hope Lodge Campaign, which seeks $18 million to build a facility for cancer patients and their caregivers in Utah, at the Hope Gala on Sept. 20. At the event, held at the future Hope Lodge site, $600,000 was raised for the lodge and the American Cancer Society. The evening began with a social hour, silent auction featuring one-of-a-kind boxes designed by local artists and a "Hope Boutique," where guests could bid on jewelry for breast cancer survivors and a gold pendant from Tiffany & Co., along with other luxury items. This year's honorary chairs were Mark and Kathie Miller, and keynote addresses were made by Hope Gala Chair, Sharon Loya, along with Hope Lodge Campaign Chair, Katie Eccles, who recognized the top donors for the lodge. Guests were also treated to a live performance by Mary Driggs and a live auction hosted by news anchor Ruth Todd, former Jazz coach Frank Layden, University of Utah basketball coach Larry Krystkowiak and Brigham Young University basketball coach Dave Rose.
