Susan G. Komen Utah's first gala event, Pink Friday—Party to Save the Girls, was a huge success. The evening, held at the Salt Lake Marriott Downtown at City Creek on Oct. 11, featured a high-energy live auctionthanks to charismatic emcee, Salt Lake County Sheriff Jim Winder. Breast cancer survivor Jill Thompson delivered an emotional speech that reinforced the need for continued funding for breast health programs and research, and guests enjoyed live entertainment, dinner and prize drawings. Susan G. Komen Utah, through its annual Race for the Cure and fundraisers like Pink Friday, contributes almost $500,000 annually to nonprofits throughout the state, and more than $100,000 to research.
