Wasatch Rails 2011
Photos by Abbie Crane
Model railroaders from all over the West showed off their work at The National Model Railroad Association's Rocky Mountain Region Wasatch Rails event at the Utah State Fair Park from Nov. 11–13. Model creator Allan Badham won the model contest for a railroad he built from scrap, featuring the mini version of an actual warehouse in Colorado and incredible detail on train car interiors. Other displays featured Lego scenes, fantasy themes and more based on real locations. On Nov. 12, a railroading merit badge class was held for 30 Boy Scouts, and designers earned points toward association's certificate program. This was the NMRA Wasatch Division's 27th year hosting Wasatch Rails, and enough money was raised to cover expenses for next year's event. About 40,000 model railroaders live along the Wasatch Front.
