The Utah Jazz revealed the new Hot Rod Hundley Media Center at EnergySolutions Arena on Jan. 29 with a ribbon cutting to honor the legendary play-by-play commentator. Hundley and his family toured the center featuring his first press pass with the New Orleans Jazz, awards and other memorabilia. The same night, a halftime ceremony was held to unveil a banner in honor of Hundley as the Jazz faced the Sacramento Kings.
The 2010 Sundance Film Festival celebrated opening night in SLC by screening Get Low starring Bill Murray and Robert Duvall at the Rose Wagner Theatre on Jan. 22. Utah Governor Gary Herbert and Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon met with guests for a dessert reception held at O.C. Tanner's downtown store after the film, where musician Lili Haydn performed.
The 2010 Sundance Film Festival's Opening Night: An Artist at the Table began with filmmakers and guests joining Sundance director John Cooper for cocktails at the Temple Theatre on Jan. 21, before screening Howl starring James Franco at the sold-out Eccles Theatre. Robert Redford introduced the film and returned with guests to the Temple Theatre after the movie to toast the evening.
Governor Gary Herbert and Utah's top business leaders met with 2010 Sundance Film Festival executives for the Sundance Business Connection at Park City's Stein Eriksen Lodge on Jan. 23. Close to 200 attended, including Co-Founder of Adobe John Warnock and President of Zions Bank A. Scott Anderson.
Park City’s yoga apparel company meSheeky debuted the brand’s fall line to the SLC market on Jan. 16 at the newly renovated 15th Street Gallery. Chief Executive Sarah Tomson Beyer led 25 students in a Flowmotion yoga workshop, followed by a trunk show of the new yoga studio/street apparel. meSheeky clothes are only available at meSheeky.com.
The Salt Lake City Arts Council welcomed guests to an opening reception for Trent Alvey and Corey Bowman's new exhibits at the Finch Lane Gallery on Jan. 8. Alvey's 'Sacred Geometry' features collages and three large paintings of Tibetan deities. Bowman, a U architecture student, created human figures and a built environment with corrugated cardboard. The local artists' work will be on display through Feb. 19.
St. Regis Deer Crest Resort held the 'Dogs of Bark City' fundraiser on Dec. 28, benefiting Friends of Animals, Mountain Trails and the Park City Performing Arts Foundation. Local artists colorfully decorated dog sculptures for the evening's auction — some going for more than $7,000. Guests enjoyed the playful atmosphere and wore dog tags to show their support.
Belly dancers and their friends, family and fans filled Ganesh Indian Cuisine for the Merry Belly Holiday Hafla hosted by local dancers Shahravar and Amina on Dec. 12. Amina and her student Jen finessed scimitar swords in a dance, while others took on classic cabaret, Bollywood and fusion styles. Ganesh catered with a traditional Indian buffet.
David Conrad (Ghost Whisperer) and Cheryl Hines (Curb Your Enthusiasm) were among the stars joining Olympic skiers like Tommy Moe and Heidi Voelker for the Celebrity Ski Fest at Deer Valley Dec. 4 to 7. The competition heated up in a Pro-Am Race and came to head in a competition taped for CBS. The program will air Sunday, Dec. 20.
