5 Best Ways to Explore Ogden This Summer

Salt Lake City always has a lot to offer over the summer. But if you venture just a little north, Ogden has some eclectic summer offerings and more than enough personality to justify the 35 minute jaunt up the I-15. Check out these events to get a little taste of the town Al Capone called “too weird to do business in.”

3rd Annual WeeBeer Festival

If you like beer, food trucks and oversized board games, this is the event for you. For $10, you’ll get a Pilsner glass, pretzel pack and 3 beer tickets (don’t worry, you can buy more). Explore the Golden Spike Event Center and taste beers from dozens of breweries. For non-drinkers who still want in on some food truck action, $5 will get you access to all food vendors and live music. For information, call Jane Wilson (801) 399-8711. Saturday, June 24th, 3-9pm. Golden Spike Event Center, 1000 N 1200 W, Ogden.

Social Axe Throwing

For those of you who secretly wish to unleash your inner Viking, check out Social Axe Throwing. You learn how to (safely) throw axes at a target and then compete against your friends who see who has better skill. No prior axe throwing experience necessary! You can set up a group session online at socialaxethrowing.com (prices vary), or simply walk in, pay $15 and throw axes for an hour. For first timers, don’t forget to wear closed-toed shoes, or you get to rent Crocs. Keep an eye out for our September/October issue for a tale from an axe throwing virgin. Open Thursdays and Fridays 5-9pm, Saturday 2-10pm, and weekdays by appointment. 2236 Washington Blvd, Ogden. (801) 395-2937.

Geeks Who Drink Trivia at Alleged on 25th

Why head all the way up to Ogden for pub trivia? Because it’s in an old brothel, that’s why! Head up every Thursday night at 7:30 for some good old-fashioned trivia in a well-known former brothel. The ambiance and history alone are enough to justify visiting Alleged on 25th. Don’t forget to order one of their specialty mixed drinks—named after documented “Ladies of the Evening” who earned their livings in the very same building. In true Geeks Who Drink fashion, bring your 5 cleverest friends and compete against other comically-named teams. Trivia is free, but you should always tip your bartenders. 201 25th St, Ogden, (801) 990-0692.

Ogden Twilight Concert Series

Perhaps the most hyped event on the Ogden Summer Calendar, the Ogden Twilight Concert series is a limited time event happening every Thursday in June. But there is still plenty of time to get tickets for the last three concerts of the season. Upcoming, you can see Louis the Child, The Shins, and Miike Snow. Tickets are cheap with General Admission ranging from $5-$10 presale. You can even secure VIP seats to be closer to the action for $25. 343 E 25th Street, Ogden, ogdentwilight.com

First Friday Art Stroll

As the name indicates, this event takes place the first Friday of every month from 6-9pm. You wander around Ogden’s Historic 25th Street, including Union Station, and take time to explore revolving art exhibits as well as independent artists’ work–totally free of charge! Stop by Booked on 25th and Lavender Vinyl to get an ever better taste of Ogden’s indie culture. While you’re out and about, make sure to check out some of the restaurants right on 25th Street. This Ogdennite recommends Hearth on 25th, Roosters Brewing Co. or Tona Sushi. Looking for something sweet to round off the night? Waffle Love always does the trick. ogdenamphitheater.com/771/Current-Stroll-Information

Get out and enjoy Ogden!
