Alamexo announces new November Chile Festival

Spice up November with Alamexo’s Chile Festival, running November 17-19. Drop by the cozy downtown establishment for traditional Mexican cuisine, with chile-themed specials served a la carte. For a more hands-on and educational experience, reserve a spot in the “Cooking with the Chiles of Mexico class and lunch on Saturday, November 19. Discover how to use a variety of chiles, favorites of Chef Matt Lake, in your own recipes and find new uses for the spicy fruit.

“There is such a mystique and so much misinformation about chiles,” said chef/owner Matt Lake. “I’m always asked about how to shop for them, how to prepare them and what parts to include in traditional Mexican cooking. I’m so excited to share my passion for chiles at our upcoming Chile Festival and cooking class with lunch.”

Specials offered during the festival include:

  • Appetizer: sopes de langosta con guajillo y aguacate: fresh corn masa sopes filled with Maine lobster cooked in guajillo chile adobo. Topped with fresh avocado & chile Serrano verde cruda. $14. Chiles featured – Guajillo (dried) Serrano (fresh).
  • Entrée: tres chile enchiladas: three enchiladas served Mexican flag style. One chicken verde, one queso Oaxaca with salsa rojo, one carne asada with pasilla. $22. Chiles featured – Jalapeño (fresh), Ancho, pasilla, New Mexico red & arbol (dried).
  • Dessert: pumpkin flan: with fresh whipped cream and chile spiked pumpkin seeds. $7. Chile featured – Cascabel (dried).
  • Cocktails: Picante Pomelo: Espolòn reposado, roasted chile piquin peppers, Cointreau, fresh grapefruit, Grand Marnier float. $10. Chile featured: Chile featured – piquin. Amante Habanero: Espolòn Blanco, Cointreau, fresh mango puree, citrus, roasted habanero chile. $10. Chile featured: habanero.

The “Cooking with the Chiles of Mexico” class will wrap up the festival with a unique opportunity to sit table-side with chef Matt Lake. He will demo how to make a few salsas with the selected chiles and will serve a chile-inspired lunch. The cost is $35 for the class and lunch, and reservations should be made as soon as possible.

Alamexo is a Mexican restaurant, putting a unique and modern twist on traditional South-of-the-border cuisine. Alamexo Mexican Kitchen is located at 268 So.
