08oct7:00 pm9:00 pmChampions of Change: 25 Women Who Made History | Book Reading & Signing

Event Details

On October 8th, local bookseller The King’s English and Better Days 2020 will co-host a book signing featuring Champions of Change: 25 Women Who Made History published by Gibbs Smith. Authors Naomi Watkins and Katherine Kitterman (also the Better Days 2020 education director and historian respectively), along with illustrator Brooke Smart will present their new children’s nonfiction book to the public. In fighting to pass the 19th Amendment, the children’s book expands on stories about brave suffragists like Susan B. Anthony and Emmeline B. Wells who fought to end laws and take down barriers that prevented them from voting. Champions of Change introduces young readers not only to Anthony and Wells, but also to a diverse group of firsts and freedom fighters in America’s struggle for equality, such as: Zitkala-Sa, co-founder of the National Council of American Indians; Martha Hughes Cannon, America’s first female state senator; Hannah Kaaepa, an advocate for Hawaiian women’s rights; Barbara Toomer, who was jailed 35 times for protests that led to the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act; and the women of the Kanab Town Council, one of the first all-female city councils in the country.

Places in the book signing line will be reserved for those who purchase a copy of Champions of Change from book store. You can pre-order a signed copy of Champions of Change today, by either calling The King’s English at 801.484.9100 or ordering online at the publisher’s site.
